Is it really a "family" hobby?

How is it that supposedly nice guys get coerced into doing things against
what is right? In HAM radio it's all about ego, most of the time. Egotistical
bastards holding frequencies and operators hostage just to further their
own agendas. Here in Western Oregon, we have enjoyed some openness
that is enjoyed by most and envied by many. Of those many, there are
some who would like to do hostile takeover of not only repeater pairs, but
websites as well. What we are witnessing here in the Willamette Valley is
a phenomenon usually attributed to much larger population areas. HAMs
who have a multi-checkered past gaining privilege and prestige is nothing
new in HAM radio, and there is apparently no recourse but to find another
repeater to talk on and other forums to visit and enjoy.

That is currently the state of affairs on the 145.13 repeater situated on
Mary's Peak, West of Corvallis by 18 miles. It is also the case of the website
my513.net , which was owned by KF7NXR and has been taken over by
K7TVL, previously of S. Oregon, under threat that NXR would not be able
to use the 5.13 repeater if he did not turn over administrator privileges to
K7TVL. Such a deal! Between that person and K7SGS of Corvallis, it should
be an interesting fiasco to watch!

Slackers and thieves seem to be drawn to each other, eh? Stay tuned for
further developments.....meanwhile, back to real radio....HF!

Why is it...

Why is it that HAM radio gets the dregs of humanity, complete with an FCC license to show that they are allowed to transmit on appropriate frequencies? No background check, no character references, not a darn thing to prove that they are fit to associate with other human beings. 


Pedophiles, child molesters, daughter rapers, the list goes on. Amazing, the FCC, being notified of the fact that some of these dregs of humanity have been issued a license, decide to do NOTHING! "Well, we'll put a 'flag' on the record so that when the license comes up for renewal, we'll act on it." Yes, exact words from the person in charge of investigations. How pathetically sad, registered sex offenders sitting among innocent men, women and children, some of whom know who that is and decide that it is 'okay' because they 'served their time'. Well, holy crap! If they were cured they would not show up on the state's government website as PREDATOR. Want to know their names? Email me and I'll send you the link for the proof.
